I get it. Running your own business, seeing clients, and trying to take care of yourself at the same time can be really overwhelming. I feel overwhelmed almost daily.
You too, right?
It sucks. Just last week I was sitting on my couch trying to get some work done and I was suddenly so frustrated. You know that feeling when you want to throw something across the room or break something but instead you burst into tears because it’s just too much?
Yeah, that was me. A crying mess, teardrops staining my beautiful tan leather couch. Both Nick and Leroy were staring at me, not really sure if they should console me or be terrified of me.
(Real quick, have I told you how much I love our new couch? I love it. Seriously though, if you are looking for a new couch I can’t suggest ARTICLE enough. And that’s not sponsored, for the record.)
Anyone else always go on tangents? Anyway, back to the point Dawn…
Those angry tears are so confusing, right? You’re frustrated and scared and sad and pissed all at once. I didn’t know what to do either.
Sources of Overwhelm
A big source of overwhelm for me (and let me know if you’re with me here) is my own expectations.
I have big dreams and big ideas. It feels like a curse some days. I want to get so much done, and like, tomorrow, ya know? Patience is the hardest part of the process for me.
That and all the itty bitty details that go into creating something.
I’m a visionary. I see the end goal, the finished project. I don’t see all the tiny little moving parts.
I don’t see that to get from A-Z I first must go through b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i… well, you get the point right?
Do you feel overwhelmed when you really start thinking about how much you need to do to get from A to Z? I sure do.
Those inbetweener steps get me every time. I get so overwhelmed with the amount of work that it’ll take to get to where I want to go and often around, oh lets say, W is when I tend to quit. I’m so close to finishing, but I get a combination of overwhelm and boredom and give up before I ever see the end.
And I’m sure you’re thinking “Yeah, I get it, but I need something to help.”
I’ve got ya.
